Weirdest/Most Insteresting/Ballsiest Guest Request

I had an inquiry this week that really made me scratch my head. The guest sent an inquiry, asking if they could check in late, at 11 pm. I said absoltely no problem: we have self-check-in, and you can check in anytime that suits you after 3 pm. They went ahead and booked, adding a second night to their reservation. Then I got an email from them, saying oh no, we weren't asking if we could check in late, we were asking if we could check in the night before at 11 pm. I was gobsmacked, and responded that it wasn't possible, because we have someone staying the night before they arrive who will be checking out at 11 am, and the earliest they could check in would be 1 pm on the date their reservation starts. I also let them know that if that wouldn't work out for them, they were welcome to cancel the reservation, as the free cancellation window is still open. 

I just can't believe that someone would ask to check in the night before they booked for, and I was wondering what kind of weird, interesting, or cheeky requests you've received from guests, and how you've dealt with them.

@Alexandra316  I have had this a few times also. I simply reply my check in is 4 PM or anytime after since it's self check in and I can not accommodate an early check in even an hour or so in advance due to other guests possibly being there or checking out that day. If they need to check in that early they can book the day before if available or wait until 4 PM to check in. I am firm on this as guests will abuse it and you if you are not. I hasd one that wanted to check in at 12 - 1 AM and then check out 3 days later at 6 PM but only pay for the full 2 days when it should be 4 days. A no not happening...

Yeah, they said, "can we pay a small extra charge?" By "small extra charge", do you mean pay for a whole extra night, because that's how long you'd be staying for? Unbelievable....

My property comfortably fits 8 ... Their request was for 15 .... i told them "My couch doesnt pull out that far.."

We have a 1 bed studio suitable for 2 adults maximum. Request was for boyfriend and girlfriend in our studio.  The rest of the family (another 4 peeps)   is it alright if my family park their motor home on your front lawn, and they sleep in it

I've had a few like @Sandra0..... saying they don't mind the single bed in my single occupancy guest bedroom and they can bring their own sleeping bag. 

Also.... a few saying they understand and agree to my "no guest(s) of the guest rule" but would still like their gf/bf come over. They would stay only in their room and not bother us hosts at all.

Mid September.... 9 PM... outside temperature is 21 C and dropping  ... guest is messaging me where is the AC controller ?  I said there is none, just open the window and vent the room, you can use a ventilator too.  She was very dissapointed.

Yes I have issues with the use of AC as well. How can you curb it. Is it ok to add in the house rules to "Please turn off AC / Heat when leaving the apartment"?

you can write whatever you want in your house rules , but who cares? The only solution is to take away A/C controller  in spring and autumn or even better to charge extra for it.

Basicly our guests use A/C to a certain day and the next day they turn on the heating. Nothing in between, they forgot what windows , blinds or ventilator are for ... there is no hope for this planet 😞 To much careless and spoiled people.

I'm just starting to do this. Hope it goes smoothly for me. Had a hard time understanding the calendar situation.

Can't allow guests until the 15th of October but Airbnb did not let me put that in while I was registering . And also want to be hear when they check in. 

Has anyone had problems with theft while the host leaves the home.

Why not, I even have a note laminated and posted next to the A/C.  I also get people turning the heat up high or even as high as they can and opening the window and going out. Next a locking box may be necessary.  Do you find people don't read the house rules.  What to do?  I have laminated notes in several places as reminders of house rules.
