I remember when not long ago, hosts would be able to see a picture and the last name of an inquiry. I would do my own vetting before accepting a booking. Airbnb has taken that away from us now. Anyone else feel like this is wrong? I now know absolutely nothing about someone who will be staying in my home until AFTER they book.

I completely agree! We always contact potential guests with a few specific questions, but don’t always get a response or sometimes their reply takes a few days. Does not build confidence!! I’m sure Airbnb can & should do better.
@Kim4364 Airbnb has proved (and published in its lighthouse report) that not giving last names and photos reduces racial discrimination. As such I don't think this policy should change.
Hi Mike & Jane, we never would think about that aspect. Unintentioned consequences of too much info? What a shame!

@Kim4364 It's to prevent discrimination. Yes, a few bad apples spoil things for the whole bunch, but the fact that they do makes steps like this necessary. I support the policy.
And actually, it's been this way for quite some time. I'm afraid it was further than 'not long ago.'
@Kim4364 , I don’t mind the pre-booking policy of first name and no profile picture ,however, what I would like to see is a competed profile (city they live etc..) and that guest(s) answer the basic pre-booking questions (purpose of visit, acknowledge house rules..etc..). After booking , I’d like to see a real profile picture, and a full name. But what I want most of all, is Airbnb to verify potential guest identification via govt I.D. and not simply an email address, phone number and name etc…
