I'm an enthusiastic interiors buff and renovating my house has been a long-term labour of love and, I realise now, will always be an ongoing project. I'd therefore be really interested to hear from other hosts who have renovated their Airbnb properties and see before and after pics if you have them, or just hosts who have plans and ideas for future projects.
To start it off, here is one of the guest rooms in my house, BEFORE:
and AFTER:
I still haven't finished tweaking this room yet (the painted wardrobes for example), so there may be updates to come.
Please share your projects and plans!
I absolutely LOVE the floors. I've never understood why people cover up such beautiful hardwood.
I don't have any pics to share yet, but if I can manage to buy my grandfather's house, I will!
I totally agree, but then I guess everyone has different tastes. I have left all of the original floorboards on show, except in the large bathroom, where they were too rotten to save, and the ground floor, which was concrete covered in carpet or lino. In those areas, I've gone for solid oak parquet, which I hope will stand the test of time. I think it looks in keeping with the house. One guest said it "looked like it had been there forever". Normally, it's very expensive, but I got it for £20 a square metre, which is about the same as any decent laminate flooring. It does take a lot of labour to lay it though.
You can see it in this photo of the bathroom:
And fingers crossed for buying your grandfather's house!
@Huma0 beautiful renovation and interior decorating, you clearly have an eye for design!
Beautiful job Huma! Did you notice the lovely orb in your before picture - to the left of center, at the top, near corner of room? Very special in deed!!!
Hi @Ali148
Thank you so much! I think you are referring to the living room photo? If so, that's the chandelier. It's four foot tall, with ten lights, so quite a dramatic feature in the room. It's a shame that the photographers didn't get most of it in the pictures, but the room does have very high ceilings, so I suppose it was difficult to get it in shot!
fantastic. My rennovation were major in the beginning in 2012 but now need to update again. I will share before and after.
Hello,
I'm new to Airbnb and I have a loft in a historic building in the old port of Montreal. I opened my place since August 2017 but had the place since April 2017. From April to August I was doing some major renovations and furnishing the place. As for the renovations, I hired someone to help me with the renovations. As for the interior I did everything by myself from A to Z and honestly I never had any experience in interior before and it was really tough but i knew that I needed to have a bit of taste and some creativity to be able to create something unique. Here are some pics of my place before and after.
The living room
Well done for doing all of that yourself! I'm always so impressed when people manage to turn a place around without relying on contractors. Kudos to you also for not allowing yourself to be daunted by a lack of experience. Sometimes you just have to trust your gut and go for it!
Thank you so much! Coming from you, someone who have a lot of experience and knowledge in interior it means a lot to me! I really appreciate it! You got yourself a gorgeous place as well. I saw the pics. and honestly I was really impressed with the way you transformed your place, it looks stunningly beautiful!
Thanks for your nice words! I tried to work with the style and original features of the house, but with a more contemporary interpreation rather than trying to create a Victorian museum piece.
I think the style you have gone for is perfect for a loft space with its industrial touches, e.g. I really like that you went with black on the window frames etc.
I never understand why people rip out original features to create a characterless white box!
Wow, @Al55. It is looking fantastic, congratulations.
It must have been quite dauting starting with the interiors, but great to have such a blank canvas. I really like that you have used all the natural features, like the beautiful brick and wooden flooring. Is everything finished now?

"bringing this post over as per request; sorry for double posting it"
So today is an exciting day! this is always the best part showing the before and after images of my remodel; after so much time being devoted to the project even I forget what it used to look like so it's nice to see the immediate differences with side by side photos. This is a project I've been wanting to work on for awhile and I am converting it into an airbnb, really excited to see if I can hit my goals with this remodel and just how much of a difference hard-work and determination can do in completely reshaping a homes atmosphere! Feel free to follow me along on this journey as i'll be posting updates on my bookings for the coming season overtime to see if this was a good financial investment!
