Hello everyone. I am asking this question because we are looking at putting in 3 small one room cabins. They will have basic kitchen, microwave, small fridge and heat and air. We will also have a 20 x 30 kitchen with large meeting space with 2 bathrooms and 2 showers. BBQ area with fire pit. All nested on a 20 acre organic farm with gardens and animals and 10 acres of woods with paths winding through the woods. Would this be something that could be done?
What is the market target? You maybe able to build your target market but design the market then the buildings that market wants.
@Marie8425 Do you have any suggestions on how I could find the target market? I do need a little help with this,
1. we have a couple of churches that have week long get together they have camp sites but are completely full and need more sites. Hence why we were looking at the primitive cabins with large main kitchen with bath facilities in it. Everything would be very close. We have though of composting toilets in each cabin with bathing facilities
Sorry, somtimes I don't see question until tagged.
Set up as a business question?
If you have church camps that have a need..
What layout fits their needs?
How often would they need?
What price for the lodging stays do they propose?
Then you have to estimate your cost to build and operate. You have to provide bed and utilities.
When would you break even ?
When would there be a profit?
Not to take Airbnb out of your plan.
An expense your business occurs has to provide a benefit to the business.
Then you have your design your business plan to profit from your design.
You would list on Airbnb similar to a room in a shared house. You clearly state 2 separate buildings. Depending on market for bedrooms in shared accommodations for your area will determine Airbnb value to your business.
The simplest way to explore that avenue, you shop for one. On Airbnb, on Social Media and on Internet searches.

Hi @Sherry605,
Did you see something similar done nearby? I'm curious as to what has inspired you to start exploring this idea 🙂
Let us know as well if you have some thoughts on Marie's suggestion!
Thanks,
Emilie

It's good you're supplying air. They would be a bit suffocating otherwise.
@Sherry605 You have described a very niche market ...I wish you success in attracting guests who will enjoy your farm and glamping amenities.
My concern would be your government regulations. Are you able to have a business renting cabins that do not have bathrooms? Would that put you in an RV park category that comes with a whole other set of rules, inspections and regulations? I don't know where you are located, so I don't know what permits, health department requirements, zoning rules or other obstacles you may have to your plans.
Good shout about the local regulations,. @Lorna170 !
@Sherry605 Is this something you've looked into already?

We have been looking into the regulations and talking with county officials. I should know what we can do soon. We were looking at this a few years ago when there were primitive cabins here on Air BNB. Why l asked the question is because we no longer see those type of listings here any longer. We are looking into every option we might have we want to do this but it may not be the best thing for us to do. We are wanting to find out the good side of this and the bad side. this will supplement our retirement but if it raises taxes to where we can’t make anything then we will have to take that into account too. We are doing our homework before any building starts 😊
