Off the Grid (But really)

Off the Grid (But really)

Hello everyone,

I've been doing some research ahead of listing my cabin and I'm a bit uncertain about how to categorize it. Based on my findings, I believe it might fall under the "off-the-grid" category, but I’ve noticed that many properties listed there include amenities I wouldn’t typically associate with being off-the-grid. This has left me wondering if my cabin fits the bill.

To clarify, my cabin doesn't have electricity, but it does have running water. Without power, we also don’t have a refrigerator. While it’s definitely more on the “glamping” side of things, it's a beautiful, well-designed space set up as a comfortable home. However, due to its secluded location, it lacks many of the typical amenities.

My main question is: Is this the right way to categorize it? Would it be suitable for Airbnb? I’d greatly appreciate any guidance or feedback from those with experience in this area.

Thanks in advance!

Hello @Madeleine335

As hosts we don't actually get to choose our category section as viewed on the Airbnb search page as a guest.  AI does it for us with hits and misses and then we can appeal to have the incorrect category changed (not always successful).  AI relies on our descriptions and our photos to place us in the various categories.

When you create an Airbnb listing, you have to choose from various drop down categories to best describe your place and this is different to the categories that you mention.

Other hosts will provide useful information I'm sure on the other question of whether your place is right for Airbnb.

I can't see anything can be categorised as "off-the-grid" than your place
