Hi, I’m Sue… we have a log home in Schroon Lake NY area and find that it has been very slow this year for bookings. We usually only rent it in June,July and August but this year we have had no bookings. Anyone else find it show?
we used to let people use our hot tub but this year we took that off and I’m wondering if that is why.
thank you
Wow, @Susan4918, gorgeous spot. Hard to imagine bookings slowing down with a setup like that. I did notice you’ve got quite a bit of open availability, so not denying your lived experience. Have you thought of A/B testing the hot tub listing (on vs. off) to see if that might be the variable affecting interest? Curious what you find.
Thank you
I would suggest look at the ad Insights. It looks like possibility a lack of traffic issue, your cabin is great and your reviews are great.
Not renting certain months can make the Airbnb Search Algorithm treat your listing has low traffic.
During every month even if not available days keep the "Date Modified" updated on your listing doesn't need to be big changes the date changing is how the Airbnb Computer sees Host is active.
Use Airbnb Custom Discounts they really help rebuild traffic when you get a slump.
Hi,
Thanks for sharing. I understand how concerning it can be when bookings slow down—especially for a property as beautiful as a log home in the Schroon Lake area.
From my experience as a property manager and short-term rental marketing specialist, I’ve seen how much Airbnb’s algorithm relies on a few key factors to boost visibility:
1. Listing Title & Description: Airbnb’s algorithm favors well-optimized titles that include searchable, relevant keywords. This helps your listing show up when guests are browsing.
2. Photos: Your current images feel a bit dim and underexposed. High-quality, professionally edited photos can make a huge difference—especially your first 3 images, which grab the most attention in search results. Bright, clear photos that highlight your cabin’s best features (even without the hot tub) can significantly increase click-through rates.
3. Amenities: While removing the hot tub may have had an impact, it’s not the only factor. Many guests are still searching for peace, nature, and rustic charm—especially in summer. The key is to make sure your listing communicates those benefits visually and in writing.
If you’d like, I’d be happy to take a quick look at your listing and share a few tailored suggestions to help you stand out again—no pressure, just practical insights that work.
Warm regards,
Faith
Hello @Susan4918,
@Susan4918. What is the local competition experiencing? Is anyone getting bookings? How long ahead can you book? If you are going to block 9 months of the year you need to be able to offer well in advance. However I note a trend towards more last minute bookings: could be people are concerned about having to cancel, although you appear to have a fair cancellation policy.
So it could be a sign of the general economy faltering and people are cutting back on non essential travel.
Have you tried to contact some of your former guests who said they would return and offer a special? Make sure you decide whether to offer the tub. I would think its a factor, but not the only one.
