Hi Rebecca! My name is Tracy and we have our very first guests arriving Friday the 7th. We installed a smart lock and I have linked it to Airbnb. My question (that they couldn’t answer when I called) to them was asking if they automatically send the code and directions before my guests arrive as Iv’e been reading they do? If so, will I know when they send that information to the guests. It seems they’ve set a code automatically as well. The gentleman on the phone said they do not but it conflicts with what I’ve read.
thank you,
Tracy
Hello @Tracy1222 👋
What a great question. I'd like to invite some experienced hosts who have talked about smart locks here in the past that may be able to share their advice: @Debra300, @Yassine121, @Dave-and-Deb0 and @Natalie1444 - I wondered if you could share your smart lock knowledge with Tracey?
Many thanks in advance! 🤗
There are certain things regarding the management of my rentals that I won't leave in the hands of automation with a third-party. I've always manually generated the door codes using the last four digits of the guest's phone number so it's easy for them to remember, and send it to the guest. This allows me to set the active duration for the code. As you've experienced, the Airbnb CS reps don't have knowledge about doorlock integration, and would be of no assistance to your guest or you if there is an issue with the door code.
Issues with access to the rental will frustrate or anger the guest, and can lead to Airbnb imposing punitive action against the host. IMO, it's best to control as much of the rental process as possible.
Thank you for your input. I can totally see your point here. I am going to see how this experience goes on Friday but I definitely won’t allow this to be an issue causing myself or my guests to have a bad experience during their stay.
I have installed a lock box in case of an emergency situation whether it be a code or battery failure. I am also just down the street from our property will be able to personally assist if need be. I will be back to let you know how our first experience goes!
Thank you,
Tracy
