Hi all! I have been trying to figure out how to solve my problem, with no luck, so I'm hoping someone here might have some advice!
I purchased a Yale Bridge with an Emtek Lock for a property that is 1.5 hours away from me that I rent on Airbnb. This has given me SO MANY ISSUES, and I can't seem to figure out how to fix it. It consistently connects disconnects, reconnects, and says DEVICE UNAVAILABLE most of the time. The batteries are dying so fast, because it seems like it's constantly searching and trying to connect to the wi-fi. My thought was that I have one modem from Xfinity that's both 5.0 and 2.4 GHz, and so the connection is constantly trying to connect to the 2.4 GHz but unable to (I hope this makes sense). My HOA pays for my Xfinity internet and the modem, so I'm trying not to have to change this out or change my wi-fi to accommodate this issue. I have no other devices that have this issue, even my MyQ garage connects consistently and works fine. It just seems to be the Yale bridge or the lock (assuming it's the Yale bridge that connects to wi-fi.)
My question is: does this make sense? Any insight? Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas on how to fix this? I am happy to get a new bridge, or a new lock, but I want to make sure whatever I purchase doesn't continue this issue. I really need this fixed so I can remotely change the code and open/lock the door from afar. Any thoughts would be SO appreciated! Thank you so much!
Hi @Erin7800
I also have a modem that transmits a 2.4GHz and 5GHz signal. If your device (in this case the bridge) is not very close to the modem, it's my understanding that it's better for it to connect to the 2.4GHz. I've solved some difficult issues by making sure my devices are set to connect to the 2.4GHz signal. So perhaps check the lock's app to see which of the two network names it's registered to, and change it to the 2.4GHz network name if it's not already there.
Sorry in advance if this doesn't help - hopefully someone who knows more will also reply!
Thank you @Shelley159 ! I have tried to change it to 2.4 with no luck. But below someone posted a great resource! Thanks for your comment!
Hello @Erin7800! 👋
Thank you for sharing this question in the Community. This is a topic that has become really popular among hosts over time. I found a thread where many hosts share their recommendations with a member who was having issues with their smart lock. Here is the link to the conversation: Smart lock.
Shelley also left you a recommendation that it might be worth checking if you haven't already. Thank you @Shelley159! 🤗
Best,
