I want to Airbnb my two bedroom finished basement. It's equipment with a bathroom and kitchenette. Fully furnished. However , there isn't really a private entrance . The entrance is through the garage. Do you think that's a turnoff for guests ?
Hi @La-Toya3!
Thank you for sharing this questions with the Community, I'm going to mention some hosts to see what advice they can give you about you 2 bedroom basement: @Shelley159, @Marie8425, @Lorina14, @Nandini11, @Margaret491 and @Kwesi-Quao0.
I think if you divide the garage to create an entrance way with lighting it should be fine .
you should check any STR regulations for your area and any planning/building regs that might apply.
Depends I think. If your prospective market is majority will have a car that you offer garage parking. Then you should just state the entry door is in the garage area were you park your vehicle.
Concerns would be if a car is not a Guest's usual or if parking in the garage are prohibited.
What entry to the garage area is offered? If you have a typical entry door, then just disclose entry area is my garage area and since we are just talking walk beside my parked car to get to your entry door and you may run into me in the garage. We are probably talking 3 minutes I wouldn't make a big deal.
If your asking someone to open a large garage door. Again don't make negative. Just this is how you open and close the big door and then the entry door to the apartment.
Hi @La-Toya3
You just need to get matched with guests who don't mind and won't mark you down for it.
The best way to do this, is to make it very clear in your listing and in your messaging so they expect it before they arrive (and so they don't book if they do mind). Consider adding photos of the entrance.
As @Marie8425 has said, be sure to make entry (into the garage and the listing) as easy as possible. There are smart openers available for garage doors if needed.
You'll have extra work: in addition to the guest suite, you'll have to keep the garage clean and presentable as well 😃!
In addition to the other comments here, I would be concerned about theft of items in the garage since guests will have access to anything stored in there.
Hi @La-Toya3!
Ive actually stayed in a apartment like this in Norway... it didn't put me off booking and we knew the entrance was via the garage, didn't think anything strange and the hosts communications and directions were amazing
