I discovered today that Airbnb have removed the feature that enables hosts to state they don't accommodate children 12yrs and under. They did so without my consent or knowledge and to date I have received no written advice of this change. Fortunately I do not use instant book and this is yet another reason why I never will. I find Airbnb's conduct to be sneaky, dishonest and disrespectful of hosts policies that they set for their own properties. I state in household rules that we accommodate adults 18yrs and over only and guests must agree to this when submitting a booking request and advise the number of guests, ages and purpose of their trip for our consideration.
@Sudsrung0 I'm just pleased they didn't break it! We just installed them and it wouldn't surprise me at all if a guest manages to break it in the first month.
This level of greed and entitlement is common… this is why I only put in the room what I want used. I used to keep the bathroom cabinet stocked with toilet paper, face wipes, extra shampoo etc and pantry with salt, pepper, olive oil, bulk coffee and tea etc.. because I mistakenly assumed normal people would show respect and use what they wanted… alas… many took it all after a one night stay, packing it in bags and leaving next day. Now I put out specific quantities… it’s annoying and time consuming to check stock levels at the end of every stay, but I’m not copping being taken advantage of and theived from.
@Kelly65 I'm kinda surprised to hear this happens to you in your location. We leave out a lot of nespresso pods and so far no one has helped themselves to any extras. We used to proved mini wrapped biccies, again we loaded up the shelf with them so we didn't have to keep re-stocking, and one group cleaned us out so when we finished the box we opted not to continue with that. No one had ever mentioned them so we figured it wasn't a big deal.
My BDC guest, who stole stuff, cleaned out the "forget me not" basket, and for good measure, stole the basket as well!
Is biccies Aussie slang for biscuits?
@Debra300 sure is! you're getting the hang of it! 🙂
(didn't even realise I'd written it like that, normally I try to convert my Aussie words to American-friendly lingo)
I live in the British West Indies most of the year, and have become accustomed and frequently use colloqial terms
in the language (note that I said biscuits and not cookies or crackers). I actually enjoy reading the different vernacular.
I don't bother with trying to change my spelling though. We all just have mentally overlook these differences: Zs/Ses, O/Ou, and In/En, and ,/. for numbers one thousand and larger.
Yes... though in my observation, it's usually only the older generation who might still refer to biscuits as bickies.
It's mad, there is one particular nationality who think they have a divine right to take everything.
I remember we used have a box of tea bags until one guest took the full box maybe 300 in a box, the booking was only 3 days,
My husband shamed them asking where's the box gone, and a few weeks ago 2 ashtrays gone.
You know, I think it's an Asian thing they need to take something as a souvenir.
@Sudsrung0 we aren't allowed to point out the fact that some cultures behave differently.... 🤣 we must celebrate everyone, especially those men of a certain culture/religion who can't stand to talk to women and who break the non-smoking house rule every single time. No, I must tolerate that behavior and never notice how it's always the same groups who behave in that way. 🙄
In one of my villas we have a BOSE surround sound system they are mega expensive in Thailand and the remote had gone missing we noticed it right away, I think because it's white in colour and the rest are black, the family who had just checked out had moved to another part of the island and they had used our minivan service so we knew exactly where they were,
I contacted them and they denied it at first and said they knew nothing about it,
It was here when you arrived and it's not here now, we test everything before you arrive, we know it was here.
Upto you, Im going to make a police report today which I would need to make any claim,
Low and behold they found it, they said one of their kids had put it their bag.
@Sudsrung0 ha, amazing how a little threat of involving police, esp in a place like Thailand, has people behaving. I wouldn't want to run afoul of the police there, not if I were hoping to leave the country at the end of my vacation.
We once had a dog stolen, and a house full of tradies (mostly a painting crew) and I walked around and asked them all if they'd seen the dog and then said "oh well, I'll have to do a police report and give them all your names so they can follow up with you later if necessary", and that did the trick, the next day my dog came bounding up to the house from one of the paddocks. Some of the tradies were a little dodgy and I'd assumed correctly they didn't want anything to do with the police!
Yep, dont mess with the police here as a foreigner you've got no chance, the police here just see it as a way to make money,
They didnt think that one out very well, they had booked through airbnb we had all their details plus copies of passports,
They would have been missing their flights home,
Like the girl who falsely accused a guy of rape, she got 2 years,
The story about that Aussie woman who stole a Beer Mat she was on TV in Australia she ended up with a criminal record over a beer mat,
