Global Language Preference not prioritized
My Global Language Preference is set to ENGLISH so my expectation is that it will always be in English regardless of where I am connecting from. Is that not the case? I'm based in the Philippines and everytime I open airbnb on a browser it goes back to Tagalog (Philippines), and I always have to switch to English. It's ignoring my language preference and I don't like it. This doesn't happen on the mobile app.
Is this a bug? Why let us choose a language preference when it's going be be overruled by the region locale?

When you login on a computer in the Phillipines, are you typing airbnb.com in the browser URL field?

Thanks @Joan2709 and @Paula for responding. 🙂
When I type in airbnb.com it redirects to airbnb.com.ph which is why I think the language switches to Tagalog. When I'm under a Singapore VPN, airbnb.com redirects to airbnb.com.sg and the language switches to English (Singapore).
Chat support has explained that the language that's showing on the browser depends on location/region (I'm guessing from the IP), and the language that's showing on the mobile app depends on the device.
If that's the case then when will the Global Language Preference ever kick in? The option is only available on desktop so I was expecting it should take preference over the default language of the locale I'm being redirected to. I don't always want to switch languages when I travel with my laptop.
And if I may request, the default language of the Philippines should be in English (US) because it's also our official language, and honestly the Tagalog translations are bad hehe.
I hope I explained it well. Thank you!

Thanks for posting back here with what Airbnb said. I do know there are two locations where language preferences are set on Airbnb. One is in the Listing Editor and the other is in your Account Settings:
Listing Editor Preferences - Language
Account Settings Language Preferences
If you have set both to English (and created the account in English) I thought even on a browser it should default to English?

I don't see the Listing Editor anywhere, is that for hosts? I'm not one. As for the Global Preferences, yes I always have that set to English. My account was also created in English. Still, it won't default to English. Everytime I open airbnb.com on a browser the language is overriden by the default country locale. I think it should default to English because that was my set language preference. Hope we can we can prioritize the language preference over the default country locale (as it should be). Is this a bug? If it requires a code change is that something we can raise to the app development team? Thank you!

The Listing Editor is for Hosts only. You can provide feedback to Airbnb about the issue with a desktop switching to local country language if you like.
