I have confirmed booking for a stay in Spain. Host just sent a link to some site that asks me to enter several details including name, passport number etc. He says this is legal requirement and will be sent for police registration. Otherwise my booking will be cancelled. To be fair, he had mentioned this as rules in his listing but never mentioned that a third party app would be collecting personally identifiable information. The link to fill up the form belonged to some partee.es website.
Is this normal? Should I fill it?
Most if not all European localities require passport registration @Krish133 so that is definitely normal. Using a third-party website is probably normal as well since there is nowhere on the Airbnb listing to set this up. Maybe see if you can find reviews of the site you're asked to use before filling in your info. Otherwise I think it's all on the up-and-up.
@Krish133 I received the same request from my host and the partee.es link and had the same questions. What did you end up doing? I contacted customer support at Airbnb and they said I didn’t have to provide this since I’ve confirmed my identity with then. But the host says I still need to provide my information to the local police department because it’s required by law and they could lose their license if they don’t obtain this, and my reservation would be canceled.
What did you end up doing? I also got a partee.es link and have the same questions.
@Dolly44 AirBnB customer support is wrong. There are many countries and jurisdictions that require the registration of foreign guests about where they are staying while visiting. If you are uncomfortable with the link that the owner provided, go to the web and locate the government agency that is used for registration, or contact the American consulate or their website for advice.
