Linking calendars from Main listing to 2 sublistings

Linking calendars from Main listing to 2 sublistings

Can someone please explain how the calendar linking is supposed to work? I just started as a host the beginning of March. I have a main listing which includes both rooms on the second floor with a shared bathroom. I then listed the rooms separately. I followed the instructions to link the separated room calendars to my main listing calendar. When I block off dates on my main listing, should it not block the same dates on my linked calendars? It doesn't, so I've had inquiries to book the separate rooms and it has been causing me a lot of problems! Because I'm updating the rooms, I blocked out all of March and April and put a note saying I would begin accepting reservations May 1st. Again none of this transferred to the separate room listings and I had to explain to interested travellers that I wasn't open until May 1st. I contacted Airbnb for support and got an AI chatbot and explained the situation. I just need to know how to fix this issue!

Hi @Tim4881 , I think the key question here is: did you set this up using “Linking calendars” or “Sync external calendars”?

For your situation, the right option should be Linking calendars, since that’s the feature meant for hosts who have one main listing and also separate listings for individual rooms in the same property.

On desktop, the steps are:

  • Click Calendar and select the listing calendar you want to link

  • Click Availability, then go to Connect calendars

  • Click Connect multiple Airbnb listings

  • Choose the main listing that contains your other listings

  • Click Next

  • Select the listings you want to link

  • Click Link calendars

The important part here is that linked calendars are meant to block dates when there is a confirmed reservation. So if a guest books the full space, those dates should then block on the related room listings too.

Where I think the confusion may be happening is if you expected manual blocks on the main listing to automatically block the room listings as well, or if you expected an inquiry or pre-approval to do that. As far as I understand it, that’s not how this feature works. It’s really meant for confirmed bookings, not manual calendar closures.

The other option, Sync external calendars, is for connecting Airbnb with other platforms or external calendars, so that would not be the right setup for this case. It also doesn’t update instantly.

So my guess is it may be one of these two things:

  • you may have used Sync external calendars instead of Linking calendars, or

  • you may have been expecting manual blocks, inquiries, or pre-approvals to behave like confirmed bookings

So it may just be one of those Airbnb features that works a little differently than we expect at first.

Hope this helps a bit! And if you want, I’d be happy to take a quick look at your other listings too and share a few host-to-host suggestions.
