Potentially selling my property

We may be selling our current airbnb property and purchasing another (to also airbnb). 

However if we were to sell, there are bookings that exist beyond the likely settlement date.

What is the process in order to cancel bookings if that sale does occur?

Is there a penalty to the host? Or does airbnb handle this side of things?

Cancellation by the host of a reservation without a valid reason (see the articles in the links) will lead to (financial) penalties  from Airbnb and also can cause removal of Superhost-status.

Selling of the property is not mentioned as being valid reason, i suggest to contact Airbnb first for advice, as is stated in the first articlel (at the end).

If hosts cancel bookings then they are fined so when you open your next Airbnb, they will be deducted from your future bookings from this new listing. 

Your calendar is open until the end of April so if there is any chance that you will be selling your current Airbnb before that date, I would personally close off my calendar to prevent further cancellations and fines.
