What can I do to make sure a listing is real and not a scam?

What should I be looking out for?

Hello, I booked an apartment, the host is “on vacation” and I had to contact someone else via email. Everything seems a bit implausible. Centre of Amsterdam, cheap, really fine apartment ...

I booked  it and payed the first half. Then I wrote the person via mail and now the person is talking about, that I have to pay the full thing + 500€ security deposit.

Please help me

Hi, I have reserved this listing for later in the year on Airbnb. I wanted your opinion on if the listing is fake. I reserved it through the Airbnb app, however the listing is for sale on a real estate site also. Looking at other Airbnb in the area it’s around similar price ( a few hundred more but it is a penthouse). In the calendar to book it seems reserved abit or unavailable for quite a few days but there are no reviews. However Airbnb lists the property as ‘new’, it said the host joined this month (July 2019) so maybe that’s why ? Not sure, let me know what you think. Thanks !
