Search optimisation

Hi,

Our Airbnb is ten minutes away from a popular tourist town (Daylesford) which is searched for a lot.  Our Airbnb is listed as being in the small village of Musk, which is basically never searched for. Wondering if anyone has any tips for getting our property to appear in searches for Daylesford?

Thanks for any help!

Hello  You have the cutes property!

Airbnb, there isn't much you can do because how their search engine works.  You have an amazing opportunity though external internet search engines often read the Airbnb Site to provide search results to their users because of the amount of traffic the Airbnb Site generates.

Those search engines determine based on reading Keywords on your listings.  Your description I see you did that.  Airbnb also allows you to create up to 6 Guidebooks design those about the popular town, about a working winery that is cool and other things that people search for don't forget to sprinkle vacation rental for 5 in your books.

Write your Host Profile, mention your knowledge of the town and your knowledge of wine.

Computers read photo captions another area you can creatively describe and optimize your listing.

Since you have met the have 3 guests Airbnb Custom Discounts if you discount a few days 20% Airbnb will market the discount increasing your traffic

Airbnb and General Internet Search Engines will always read Date Modified first.  That is how they determine new or old.  Any change you make to your listing that requires you click Save the date  is updated

My only suggestion would be the deck and outside look beautiful but are not presented that my group of 5 can sit relax and grill dinner.  I am sure we can just maybe take photos that show me.

Thanks for the reply and suggestions Marie - appreciate it!

I don't know anything about Airbnb Experiences but don't wineries offer like tours and tastings and if you have a restaurant tie it all in.  Then you can promote both things.  Want to see a winery if you need lodging how about on the vineyard.

I would try listing on Vrbo as their map results do show Musk when searching for Daylesford.

Hi @Cameron461

Airbnb search results draw in nearby towns at random. In fact, many hosts here in the community center have complained about how some listings on page 1 are frequently not actually located in the town searched. I've always assumed that it's precisely for the reason you mention - that there are some small towns that are likely not to be searched and not to be discovered by tourists if they aren't included in nearby, popular searches. Towns often make short-term rental rules that can potentially severely damage Airbnb's revenue in a specific area, meaning it's in the company's best interest to develop its market in the alternative surrounding areas early on. While you may have appeared in more Daylesford searches if you were in Daylesford itself, you can be sure that your listing is certainly shuffled into the Daylesford search results at regular intervals.

When I search for 5 guests and flexible dates in Daylesford, I find a home in Hepburn on page 1 and a home in Musk as the first listing on page 2 (and many more such listings and additional towns feature thereafter). These results will show up differently in different searches, but it proves my point above. You can test it by searching Daylesford in Private Mode.

Your own home is on page 12 for me. You're temporarily in a tough spot, because your "new" label has now disappeared and the last review was not perfect. I wouldn't see this as a big problem - just keep your eye on where your listing ranks (by searching for it in Private Mode) and see whether you can get it to rank better by tweaking some variables:

On Airbnb you don't have to worry too much about Musk vs. Daylesford (the bot will treat your area fairly), but rather worry about what you can do from your side to make your listing as competitive as possible. Hope it helps!

Hi @Cameron461

Mention “Daylesford” Prominently in Your Listing Title and Description.

Add something like “Peaceful Retreat in Musk/Only 10 Mins to Daylesford”

Description first line especially. Start with something like “Located just a 10-minute scenic drive from Daylesford…” to ensure it shows up in search snippets.

In your listing location settings, make sure Daylesford is mentioned as the closest popular area or “what it’s near.”

Hi @Cameron461,

What a view! Have guests ever asked if they could take a tour of the vineyard in the past?

Marie, Joan, Shelley and Patricia have shared some suggestions with you on how you could optimise your listing for this search term -it would be great to know which one(s) you decide to try and implement, and how it goes. 🙂

Thanks,

Emilie

I just think you have an amazing opportunity.

AI is the latest thing and of course there are already travel apps built with AI.

Search Optimization is focused on a Key Phrase not Key word.

You have an awesome winery which we all know wine country vacations are expensive and popular.

Your property is great for the medium age adults with children not babies, to indulge themselves in a wine vacation that also has the small town for family activities.  The best of both worlds come up with some key phrase ideas.  You know how to sprinkle haha.
