Sudden Drop in Visibility After Escalating Photo Override Issue

Hi everyone,

I’ve been hosting on Airbnb for over 11 years and I’m a current Superhost. I recently escalated an issue where Airbnb’s algorithm was overriding my selected listing cover photos, and despite having well-shot, optimized images for each listing. After pushing the matter with support and submitting feedback through the official channel, I noticed something odd…

Almost immediately afterward, 4 out of my 5 listings dropped deep in search results, even for filters like "Room in a home," "Instant Book," and price under $80, where I’ve always ranked well.

I’ve confirmed there are no flags or violations on my account. Airbnb says this is just “dynamic search behavior,” but the timing feels too aligned to be coincidental.

Has anyone else experienced a sudden drop in visibility after opening a support case or disputing an algorithm-driven issue like photos or pricing?

I’d really appreciate hearing from other hosts who’ve had similar experiences or know what steps helped restore visibility.

Thanks in advance 🙏

@Gisselle31 Here are a few steps that have helped others in similar situations:

  1. Temporarily Refresh Your Listings

    • Unlist and then relist one or more affected listings after 24–48 hours. This sometimes gives the algorithm a “nudge.”

    • Make a few minor updates (e.g., tweak the title, reorder photos, update the description) to signal listing activity.

  2. Sync Your Calendar Daily

    • The Airbnb algorithm tends to favor active hosts. Even just opening your calendar and saving it can show activity.

  3. Use Smart Pricing Strategically

    • Even if you don’t like Smart Pricing, toggling it on for a day or two and then turning it off has helped some listings regain momentum.

  4. Message Support Again—But Carefully

    • Avoid suggesting there’s a “punishment” by the algorithm. Instead, politely ask for a visibility review or ranking audit, citing that you're seeing a sharp performance decline despite no violations.

Lastly, continue tracking impressions and clicks in your Performance tab.

You're clearly a dedicated host—hopefully this is just a temporary blip!

When I drop my listing for day of rental below the recommended price, there's a good chance my listing will disappear. I have to call and complain about it which takes about 20 minutes and then it'll pop back up. They claim they don't do anything but I know they do.
