When renters smoke outside when no smoking on property was noted. What would you do?
I am a new host and have my first mid-term rental by a seasoned renter with great reviews. He has 4 of his employees staying in my home during the rental; he comes in and out every few days. I clearly stated no smoking on property or in the home as wildfires in Colorado are a serious concern and smoking may affect my home owners insurance. The employees are on the front porch smoking and wiping their cigarettes on my porch to extinguish them. We are only 1 week into a 111 day stay. Would you address the renter/boss and how would you go about that? .
@April691 I would reach out to the renter and let them know your property is non smoking that means outside as well. And ask that their employees to please not smoke on property and leave their butts on the grounds.

This is a serious issue and I would treat it as such. there were two fires locally that destroyed very old homes and both were due to careless smoking out side when it was dry and windy. Both were very old homes, historical. It is very sad.
you can speak to the renters but also the employer. Don’t let it go.
