can the default 'guest count' be zero?

When a guest is doing IB or even a reservation request, airbnb automatically fills in the 'guest count' to one.  Because the guest count when guests book is '1 guest', I often get couples booking while it says 'one guest' despite the larger group they are hoping to book.  For my airbnb, I charge a different rate for 2 guests - .  I am wondering why airbnb doesn't have the guest count at zero when booking, so that the guest has to enter 1,2,3 etc.

The booking would not go through with a zero guest (maybe the 'book' button would be greyed out until it was selected, for example) so the guest would be 'forced' to enter a guest count.  It would make the guest  at least think about what they are requesting - and probably they would put in 2 guests if there are 2.  Not having to enter anything means they can skip over this vital information - and often the guest is a bit angry when they are told that the cost for 2 guests is more.

Similar to buying a shirt online, you have to enter the size and color before it allows you to go to the checkout window.

It is a small change online that would make a BIG difference to us hosts - and the guests would probably feel better about it too.

Its not like that at all Robert 6 , sometimes those booking consider 'the guest' to be their guests not themselves, so it is always important to check with the guests as to 'how many are on the booking ,including yourself , and ask for the ids of all persons on the reservations or how many children in the group . a few questions and a modicum of observation will allow you to sort these issues out .If a variation on the booking amount arises then simply add the amount yourself and ask the guest to modify the booking to cover 'all guests' and send thru a 'variation ',and ask the guest to accept. that is a hosting issue Robert.    Good Luck H
