I booked a B&B in central America through Airbnb in early October for a stay in February. Shortly after booking, I contacted the host, who is from the US, to request to change my room. It is a small B&B with a handful of rooms and my room was the only booking for those dates. It is still the only booking. No response. I have since reached out to the host 3 other times. No response. I even involved Airbnb and the host did not respond to Airbnb either. The host had excellent reviews but no reviews in almost a year on Airbnb or the other online sites they list on. My concern at this point is not the room change. It is the fact that the host does not respond. I have paid for the room and I do not want to get stranded. There are no other bookings for any of the rooms. Period. I reached out again to Airbnb two days ago asking them to once again to try and reach the host and, if the host did not respond, for a refund. I have yet to get any acknowledgement of my message from Airbnb.
Depending on the host refund policy, you do not need his approval. The earlier you cancel, the better - hopefully you will have no issues.
Go to MY TRIPS, click on Change or cancel, and click on cancel.
This should tell you if you have any penalty.
If so, call airbnb and they can cancel it for you, so you have time to get your refund and book somewhere else.
