Neglecting to Accurately Enter Number of Guests

Do any other hosts out there spend a lot of time asking and then having to update reservations made that list only one guest staying, when it is usually apparent there are more that one guest? I wish Airbnb had a method to not let guests get past the "number of people" window before they move on to booking the reservation.

This is a common issue with guests booking through Airbnb. I don’t understand why guests blatantly fib so often about guest count.

@Sitara3  From the guest perspective - it's not that easy to flub. It's no coincidence that this happens much more when there's an extra guest fee. Be vigilant and make sure that any necessary changes have been accepted before handing over your keys.

Most of the time, I think it's just that guests miss putting in the number. Airbnb should update their platform to make sure they have to enter a number of guests. Only a small minority do it to scam extra guests without paying.

Yes, all the time. On my tiny two person max unit (no extra guest fees) I would say probably 30% of my guests do not select the correct guest count (defaulting to one guest instead of changing it to two.) It is not malicious, they just overlook it.

I think that Airbnb can address this problem by having the guest count default to zero. The guest would have to input the number on on their own and take full responsibility for it. If the guest count came through as zero then obviously we would question it.
