It’s a slow night. Then this rolls in.
My name is *** , The Director (ooohhh, caps 🤩) for an upcoming short film, and I am sending this message to inquire about renting your property for 4 days from December 11 to December 15 along with sometime this month possibly a tour through the property for a location scout. We are prepared to offer a higher day rate, and the property will be fully insured for filming and damage for the duration of the shoot if this will work. If this can work, we would have a crew of roughly 8-12 in the house along with a cast of 5. This short film is a horror/drama following the life of a young boy and the “ghost” of his late sister as they grow up through life in an unstable family scenario held together by an optimistic therapist. All equipment would be placed on moving blankets and would be protected to avoid damaging your property. Please let me know what other details you would need to know and if this could work out. If not, no worries and thank you for letting us know. Sincerely, **
HAHAHAHAHA. I gave it my best @Ute42 “NO”. I miss Ute 😩
Polite though he was, no way I’m biting. Drama/horror this would certainly be.
So far no one has mentioned filming a porno movie. One has to be careful about that taking place! Otherwise, charge an extra cleaning fee!
We've been propositioned for TV shows, movies (including "tasteful" porn), music videos, photo shoots, product placements, etc. We turn almost all of them down. And even if you go down the road with some of these guys, it quickly becomes clear that they are soliciting multiple listings (maybe even dozens) to find the most lenient/cheap/decent looking venue to leave their "creative" turd on.
We did a music video about 10 months ago and it was rather regrettable. The home took a pretty decent beating. Makeup clay was everywhere, 10+ people likely stayed the night (6 person listing), there's only have 1 bathroom and we're on septic, etc. They also unbolted the outdoor chairs on our observation deck and turned it into a "stage" without asking. Adding insult to injury, the promised "collaboration" really never came to pass. And we had high hopes for said collaboration considering the "creators" had 1.65M followers on their YouTube channel. Oh well. . .
Safest bet is a hard "NO" every time.
@Richard531 "And we had high hopes for said collaboration considering the "creators" had 1.65M followers on their YouTube channel."
The thing about these "influencers" and youtubers is sure, they might have some impressive amount of followers, but you might not want any of them as guests even if the exposure generated interest in booking your place. Because chances are that their followers are a lot like them.
Now if someone told me they had an organic gardening blog with xx number of followers, I would probably find that those folks and their followers would be a good fit for me and my place.
@Richard531 I had one two years ago. Local TV channel doing a short crime film and they chose my house as it fits the era for working class family. They filmed over 2 days. They paid a LOT! The only real downer was the neighbours asking why the police (actors) came multiple times to my house.
@Wendy117 "They paid a LOT!"
Would you mind offering what you had them pay? And how did you deduce/arrive at that amount?
They offered an amount up front - they obviously had some experience with what they would need to pay. A LOT to me was $5000 for 2 days use but they booked my minimum of 4 days ( usually $140 per day per apartment) and they only used it during the day - no-one actually stayed over but bedding etc was used - they obviously were filming the family in night time or morning scenes. They used the adjoining apartment as changing rooms.
Sounds like students, @Colleen253 , especially if the "director" is doing the location scouting.
It won't be okay.
They need to get one of their moms to let them film in her house.
Haven't gotten that one yet. Surprised I haven't gotten many requests yet for that kind of thing, given the house I have and our proximity to Hollywood and other filming hubs.
@Colleen253 I don't know how it works there but here it is common to rent someone's property, including someone's home for filming commercials, shows, movies... My mum and my friend live in old apartments in the city with antique furniture and decore and high ceilings so their homes were used a few times for filming. Of course, the owner is always present and there is always a crew, lighting, actors, make-up artists... it's a bit hectic. There are also trucks outside with electricity generators, catering etc... They pay by day and the price is MUCH much higher than Airbnb nightly prices. When it is television then it is not very demanding but the movie is another story and they pay much more.
@Branka-and-Silvia0 I just have heard so many horror stories, I don't want to go near something like that. Even if it was a legit outfit, my place is small and it would never work out. But I don't think any of the inquiries I've gotten are legit.
@Colleen253 well, Croatia is small so everyone knows everyone in the filming world, it's different I suppose.
