Thank you Airbnb and Lysol

Good morning and happy Friday to everyone. I wanted to express my gratitude to Airbnb and Lysol for partnering with one another to help hosts purchase Lysol disinfecting products and hand sanitizer. It was quite a pleasant surprise to see that announcement when I accessed my host account this morning. I have already taken advantage of the offer. Thank you again.

Best Regards,

Gwen

@Gwen312 Is there really still a shortage of those products in your area?

@Gwen312   A cheerful bit of trivia to start your weekend:   https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/lysols-vintage-ads-subtly-pushed-women-to-use-its-disinfec...

Yes, in the dark days before Roe v Wade, Lysol was marketed for DIY abortion. And yes, several women suffered horrific injuries and deaths as a result.

Fortunately we now live in a more enlightened time, when misogynistic men of power and influence would never suggest that people put disinfectants into their bodies. Oh, wait....

Thank you for the link to the absolutely fabulous article in the Smithsonian!

Buyer beware...

Just thought folks should know that Lysol aerosol spray is toxic:

"Health Risks for Humans

Direct contact with Lysol can cause eye irritation, therefore, shield your eyes when using Lysol cleaning products. Measures should also be taken to avoid making any contact with skin, food or clothing. After using Lysol products you should wash your hands immediately with antibacterial soap and warm water to prevent skin irritation. If you get Lysol in your eyes, remove contacts, in applicable situations, and flush your eyes out extensively for at least 15 minutes with water. If the irritation does not subside, seek medical care immediately. If Lysol products are swallowed or consumed internally, call poison control and your doctor immediately. Lysol contains denatured ethanol, which is poisonous to humans. High concentrations of Lysol can also cause lung irritation.

Health Risks for Pets

Felines are particularly sensitive to Lysol cleaning products. The combination of ethanol alcohol and phenol creates a dangerous poison for cats who don't have the ability to safely process these substances in the liver. All cleaning products containing phenols should be avoided entirely in households with cats and birds. Air fresheners can be absorbed through inhalation, the skin and ingestion. When these products are absorbed in the body of a cat or bird, the ensuing central nervous system stimulation leads to seizures, ataxia, impaired respiratory function, vomiting and potential fatality."

@Kristin108 I honestly don't understand why anyone, including hosts, would want to spray everything down with Lysol, when plain old soap, a 1/10 bleach solution, or regular 70% alcohol is known to render the virus inactive. I certainly wouldn't want to stay anywhere that Lysol had been sprayed all over everything.

I do use Lysol wipes to clean the toilet seat and rims, just because they're convenient, but other than that, I use the cheap things I mentioned above that disinfect just as well.

@Sarah977, so true!

I am having my doubts about this company...

Not to mention the 'non green' nature of aerosol sprays and the plastic wipes that are not biodegradable... Will ruin a septic system quicker than baby wipes!
