USELESS AIRBNB AMBASSADOR

Booked a place on Saturday 19th arrived at - Homely terrace house Hosted by Mandy just outside Lincoln, actually in Gainsborough

I left on the same day after witnessing drug deals around the property and the area is very unsafe as confirmed on the crime stats for the area.

I tried to cancel the booking that evening and the Airbnb website would not allow this and I took a screen shot of the issue and the Airbnb note stating I'd need to cancel by contacting Airbnb by phone. I did this on Sunday and I was assured I would receive a refund and the booking was now cancelled. I had not heard anything from Airbnb after this so I called again on Wednesday and I was informed the same and I would receive the refund in 10 days. I then received a call from *** who had got involved by Airbnb who said the booking had not been cancelled, she had spoken to the host and felt I should accept a 50% refund and that she had cancelled my refund already agreed. This lady clearly had no idea of the situation as she was clearly unaware of the details and has asked me to provide the evidence as I recorded the calls myself and she has not bothered to check the evidence herself. I have asked for an email address to forward the recorded calls too but she has not bothered to do this either.

I will now proceed through the small claims court to recoup my costs, all of them as I can see no option to proceed further available to me.

@Oliver611  Guests are sometimes entitled to a refund if the rented property itself is missing the advertised amenities, but there's nothing in the contract that says you get reimbursed for not feeling safe in the neighborhood. You say that there are publicly available crime stats confirming your apprehensions, which basically means you failed to do your research on the location before booking. Good luck in court.

I will not require luck, I will be suing for the refund offered and accepted. You failed to mention this in your response. The refund I'm untitled to as I tried to cancel in the day however the Airbnb site was not working as the screen shot proves, as does the recorded call. Simple really.

@Oliver611  You are not "entitled" to a refund because you perceived the neighborhood to be unsafe.

@Oliver611   You're not "entitled" to a refund. The host is free to offer you one at her own discretion, but she's also free to rescind that offer because, well, why throw money at someone who just lives to be a total pain in the butt?
