guest verification

We have had good experiences hosting at our place here in Maine. However, we dread the day when a guest arrives with an adult who is a felon and terrorizes our family!  These days with all the crazy things going on in this country, airbnb needs better due dilingence to avoid  future problems with unverified guests. All adult guests who use Airbnb services for their travels need to be airbnb verified which we are told by Airbnb includes a backgound check.  That may mean less bookings, but that is ok with us as safety is our #1 priority and should be for all hosts. Yes the person who books the  listing gets verified and we are told a background check is completed, but what about the other adults who travel with that person? These other adults may or may not always be the same people from one travel stay to another which can render a review meaningless. In some cases the verified guests books for another adult and we do not even no who will show up for the stay when they arrive.  This actually happened on one occasion but no problems occurred in that situation just very awkward for us as hosts. Some of these adults who travel with the person who has been verified could be a felon or even worse. Will airbnb wait for some catastrophy at a hosts property before that policy is changed?  At a minimum we as hosts should get the full name and address of all adults who are going to stay at the property so we can do our own background check to reject any convicted felons. We need to make sure all has been done to assure no convicted felon comes to our property to possibly terrorize our family.  In order to minimize this possibility, we have now limited the number of months open for stays as this is our only option other than deleting Airbnb and going to another platform or creating our own.  This is the only major negative we have with the Aribnb platform and do have many positive points that are quite obvious.

@Bob330   I think your concern is valid unfortunately your belief that Air BNB does a background check on guests is in error.  If you have the means to do a background check on potential guests then you should do that and not use this platform.  Many landlords require tenants to complete an application which includes personal information and  references.  Peace of mind is important, right?
