kicked out by the host

  • I rented a condo through Airbnb for a month from 1st to the 30th
  • The host welcomed me on the first day and allowed my cat to move in, despite he has a no pets policy.
  • Later I found out, the host subleased units from owners and listed units on Airbnb without owners’ consent.
  • What is most important, the building does not allow Airbnb.
  • The owner of the unit I was living in, found out that and required earlier leaving and extra money from the host. The lease contract between them ends before my term with the host.
  • The host terminated the booking and evicted me on Nov 25th, citing no pets rule has been broken, despite he allowed pets by action.
  • Airbnb sided with host and helped him to kick me out.
  • Airbnb failed to screen buildings are not permitted to use for Airbnb. In addition, the host did not have the right to rent me the unit for the full month.

Can anyone help? Can I request Airbnb to conduct an audit on the host?

@Sui201 Leave a review and move on. The host presumably doesn't have a listing anymore as their landlord terminated their lease

This host has other units listed on Airbnb from the same building. I am not seeking any gain from this. Airbnb should do an audit on this superhost.

@Sui201  Yes, they should. But Airbnb seems  to turn a blind eye to this sort of thing particularly if the host has many listings. And whatever investigations Airbnb undertakes, they won't share that info with you.

It's really safer to stay away from listings where the host is a property manager with tons of listings, as these are the ones that seem to get the most complaints.

Re the cat. You say the host allowed it, even  though the listing says no pets. So did you ask before you booked if you could bring the cat, or did you just show up with it?

@Sui201  Airbnb doesn't require tenant hosts to prove that their leases allow them to sublet, so requesting an "audit" on the matter would be pointless. But if the listing is in violation of regulations that are in public record, you can report it at https://www.airbnb.com/neighbors . Airbnb may contact the host to investigate, but as @Sarah977  mentioned, they won't disclose the results to you.

I don't quite understand why you chose to book a home that was listed as "no pets allowed" when you intended to bring a cat, but this detail is actually irrelevant here because the host always has the right to terminate a stay for any reason. As long as you were refunded for the unused portion of your booking, the only thing you have left to do is write a review. It would be unwise for the host to continue subletting without permission, but that's neither your problem nor Airbnb's - it's a private matter between the landlord and the tenant.
