I’m not sure what to do when we’ve had an electrical blackout.
still trying to get to the bottom of the cause and see if it’s fixable.
But what are my obligations to the current guests if it can’t be fixed tonight?
@Mark1662 Surely the worst case is that their stay is curtailed and they are refunded for the remaining stay. You are not responsible for finding them alternative accommodation.
This is 2022. If your house was wired in the past 20 years, most electrical problems are caused by some anomaly, and rectified by turning a switch back on, or, at worst, unplugging an offending appliance. I know. Been there, done that.
So, if you don't feel confident to flip the switch back on and can't get an electrician to show up for 2 weeks (not unusual), perhaps you have a neighbour that has some expertise in that field?
Just a suggestion, check the main panel. If you have breakers on the panel, sometimes they get tripped. Either you or guest can turn them all off and the on again. Another host we know had a similar issue recently.
Sometimes the breaker looks like it's on, but it actually not.
Also, tell or make sure your guest doesn't overload a plug. For example running a microwave and an Airfryer from the same plug.
Hope this helps!
