GUEST CONTACT INFORMATION

I have been a hist for over 25 years and a long-time Airbnb host who has welcomed hundreds of guests into my homes. I appreciate Airbnb's commitment to protecting guest privacy, but I believe the current policy of masking guests' actual phone numbers goes too far and creates unnecessary safety and operational risks for hosts.

When I allow someone to stay in my home, I am trusting them with a property worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. In return, I believe hosts should have access to the guest's actual mobile phone number and email address before check-in.

There are many legitimate reasons for this:

• Emergency situations such as fire, severe weather, medical emergencies, or evacuations.
• Internet or cellular outages that prevent Airbnb messaging from working.
• Urgent maintenance issues that require immediate communication.
• Lost phones or situations where Airbnb notifications are not being received.
• Insurance, security, and legal documentation requirements in some jurisdictions.

Airbnb's relay phone number is helpful as an additional communication method, but it should not replace access to a guest's verified contact information.

Guests are already trusting hosts with their personal safety and accommodations. Hosts are trusting guests with valuable homes and property. That trust should be mutual.

I respectfully request that Airbnb give hosts the option to receive a guest's verified mobile phone number and email address after a reservation is confirmed and before check-in. At a minimum, hosts should be able to require this information for safety and emergency purposes without violating Airbnb policy.

This change would improve guest safety, reduce risks for hosts, and help resolve emergencies more quickly while still maintaining appropriate privacy protections.

My suggestion:  Please add a Host Setting that allows hosts to require guests to share a verified mobile phone number and email address after booking. Guests who are uncomfortable sharing this information can simply choose listings that do not require it. This gives both guests and hosts the ability to choose the level of privacy they are comfortable with.

I’m based in India, and in my experience, once the booking is confirmed, I do receive the guest’s mobile number through Airbnb. So I am able to contact the guest directly when needed, especially for check-in and urgent situations.

I agree that having a reliable way to contact guests is important for hosts, particularly in emergencies, power/internet outages, or urgent property-related matters.

For me, the current system after confirmation works reasonably well, although I would also support Airbnb making verified contact information more clearly accessible to hosts while still respecting guest privacy.
