I had a guest cause almost $8000.00 of damages and after submitting my claim to Airbnb, and waiting patiently. This was their response: “I understand that you want the damage to be cover, however our specialized team already made the decision and the $200 is the maximum if we can give”. We are going to court.
@Odette102 Before you consider court action you should actually read your contract with Airbnb. Aircover pays out on the whim of Airbnb and, if it pays at all, it pays a depreciated value. You might win in court if Airbnb don't bother to turn up but if they do you will be wasting your money.
How could a guest cause so much damage ?
Other insurance options which might cover are maybe:
- Your home and contents insurance
- The guest's personal liability insurance (if damages were result of some accident)
- The guest's travel insurance

@Emiel1mentioned your own homeowners insurance as a claim possibility. In most places I am aware of, your personal homeowners insurance will not cover a loss from a commercial activity: a business, like this one. What is recommended to us is a business policy specific to STR risk coverage. If this sort of coverage is available to you, your agent can write you a policy, based on your shared facts, and likely an inspection. If you already have one, this is the policy to make a claim from. Please make sure you have adequate liability coverage as well.
