Guests who've broken several rules

Hi,
We've just been hosting for about 2 months. We had a 2-night guest who said she'd be staying with 3 friends. We have proof that there was a party with several more people in attendance.  They smoked weed, left vomit in a few places, etc. The store across the street has video proof that the people from our property came across the street and stole liquor from the store. The guest has already agreed to pay additional cleaning fees we incurred but we wonder if we should pursue any other avenues. Any advice!?

Hi @Tamara1062  - welcome to hosting!

Short answer - I would just move on from this group. Leave a factual review that they didn't follow house rules, smoked on premises. I would not add any further details, just facts.

And I would tighten up messaging about occupancy. Over occupancy is a common pain point, you aren't alone.

Make a house rule about your occupancy. You seem to have decent messaging about smoking already.

And I would tighten up any guest vetting that you do to try and avoid this scenario in the future.

Your listing doesn't have reference to security cameras? I would add some exterior cameras and put some messaging that cameras are used to monitor occupancy, parking, etc.

Good luck and hopefully the next guests are just normal-no-issues!

Thank you so much for your thoughtful response. Unfortunately, we had a family member walk through who just didn't notice much because all the beds were made. He could smell that there had been smoking but we left a decent review for the person. We did contact her and she agreed to pay for the 2-hours of extra cleaning. We will be acting on your suggestion about emphasizing occupancy rules and installing outdoor cameras - that don't impinge on guests' privacy. I only wish there was a way that we could alert other hosts that this guest is bad news.

Thanks again for helping us be better, smarter hosts!
