Hey community! We need your help.

My husband and I are headed home to Bainbridge Island, WA, to celebrate our first baby girl on the way! We are looking at a location to book that would work perfectly for the small baby shower, but the host has no reviews and neither does the listing. Would love to get some people's opinion on whether or not this is a legit listing. We are tight on budget and don't want to throw money in the wind if this is a scam

Hello @Paige343 ,

If you’re young and spontaneous, you can take these kinds of chances. But since this is going to be an event and you’ll be inviting people or family, I think you’re taking a big risk with a place that has no reviews. There’s no reason to trust it yet. Go for a place that’s already running and has some goodwill behind it.

Airbnb's are for accommodation and many won't allow parties or visitors not on the booking @Paige343

It would be likely be cheaper to get a smaller place for you to stay and then have your baby shower with family that you are visiting /book a restaurant or similar .

look for a superhost with good recent reviews .

Hi @Paige343 😊

Thank you for asking this question here.

Congratulations on your first baby, that must be so exciting! 😍

What did you decide to do about your reservation after the suggestions from our host?
Did you find a place that convinced you more?

Warm regards 🌻,

Hi @Paige343

It’s not uncommon for new listings to have no reviews every host starts somewhere. A lack of reviews usually just means the listing is new, not necessarily that it’s a scam. Airbnb has a verification process in place before a listing can go live. Hosts must submit a valid government-issued ID, verify their phone number, and confirm the address of the property.

Message the host directly a
sk any questions you may have about the space, amenities, or area and mention about your “Small Baby Shower” to avoid any disputes.

You can’t assume a baby shower is allowed on Airbnb, officially Airbnb bans events, but some hosts may allow small gatherings if you ask permission clearly before booking,  you stay within rules and guest limits,  you treat the space responsibly.

A modest baby shower can sometimes be OK, but it’s entirely dependent on the host’s comfort and listing rules. Communicate before you book your stay is my advice.  Btw congrats on your first baby!
