Love Sustainability: A shared commitment between hosts and guests

As hosts, our homes aren’t just places for travelers; they’re spaces where we share values, inspire guests to embrace sustainability, and build a culture of respect for the environment with our guests.

That’s why we created Love Sustainability (LS), an association created by hosts and for hosts. Our goal is to offer simple, free, and practical tools to help hosts clearly communicate their sustainable choices and engage their guests. Currently, it is available only in Italy.

Small actions, big impact 

At Love Sustainability, we believe that real change doesn’t come from isolated grand gestures, but from many small, collective everyday actions. A host may have the most sustainable home in the world, but if they’re unable to share sustainability practices with their guests, the impact could be limited. Sustainability is about collaboration and open dialogue between hosts and guests.

And this is often where the challenge arises. How do we explain our home’s sustainable practices in a simple and direct way? How do we ask guests to be mindful without seeming strict or intrusive? LS was created to answer these questions, turning communication into a tool for inclusion and support.

Love Sustainability’s tools 

Our practical, intuitive, and free system helps hosts transform sustainability into a strength of hospitality.

The calculator

Developed and in collaboration with Lifegate and Airbnb, the calculator helps  hosts measure their property’s sustainability level. It asks questions across 5 domestic areas: energy, water, waste, mobility, and responsible choices. After completing the questionnaire, a report provides an overview of your home’s current level and suggests easy upgrades. It’s the first step to getting a clear, personalized overview.

The decalogue

The Decalogue is a tool created for hosts to communicate to guests what they are doing in their establishment to ensure sustainable and respectful hospitality. It's essentially a list of sustainable best practices within the home. This visual aid displayed in your home tells guests about your sustainable choices in a clear, friendly, and direct way. The leaves

Leaves are the heart of the “Love Sustainability” project. They’re simple, intuitive messages to place around your home, like the bathroom, kitchen, or near trash bins, to remind guests of specific actions, such as turning off the lights, sorting waste, and saving water.

The combination of the decalogue and the leaves is the winning choice! With the decalogue, I communicate my commitment as a host, and with the leaves, I create an alliance with my guests, inviting them to take simple actions for a respectful management of the home.

Thank you for sharing this @Cinzia76. Your approach to sustainability is very inspiring. It made me think about adding a simple Guest Challenge to Love Sustainability

When guests arrive, they could choose one small eco action to try during their stay, like saving water, avoiding single use plastics, or buying from a local market. At check out, they could share what they did or their experience.

This would make sustainability more fun and personal and help guests feel part of the movement. Over time, these small actions could create a big collective impact. 🌿
