Missing air condition ruined holiday

Hello sorry for the bad English but i have a question. Air bnb doesnt resapond and the emergency hotline is not available.

Were on gran canaria atm. Ita planned from 17 august to 17 September.

The flat has no air condition. The flat has only 2 fans i can fill with cold water. He said thats enoguh and good for cool down the flat. We didnt knew anything about that type of "ac".

Till now we tried to cool down the flat with the fans and it doesnt work. The provlem here is that we have a 1 yeat old baby and shes suffering at night bcause of the high temperature. We searched extra for a flat with Air condition. The flat is advertised with Air condition.

Now we thinking about flying back home because our baby is suffering.

Is there a chance we get some monry back?  Airbnb doesnt answer at all

You would need to document what there IS (fans and water) and compare with the listing.

If you leave early you are probably more likely to get some money back than if you stay the whole trip.

Ive sent airbnb a photo but they donz answer, via twitter facebook and the app.

Now we dont know if we get money back if we fly back home. In the faq it said that maybe wr can go in another flat with the same standards. But i dont know what to do now

There is a air conditioning listed not just fans.

To get another space you would need to contact airbnb which seems hard at the moment.

Perhaps @Katie can raise someone?

And how i do the refund thing? Just fly home. And contact air bnb?

Would be awesome to get someone to manage this problem. That wr know whats the next step

@Marc7416 what temperature is it?

Daytime 31 nightime 26 no rain no wind. The flat is pretty warm and the air is old(sry dont know how to explain in English) baby sleeps only in pants and shes sweating so much included we cant sleep bcause of temp. And baby. So thats not the holiday we expect to have.

Thats why we searched for a air condition the baby dont know this high temperatures and its a torture for her.

Bless the baby. Seems like you had better book somewhere else if you can so she is safe.

Old air - stale air.

@Ute42 @Robin4 @anyone! Can you help?

@Mike-And-Helen0

It's all very well me having an opinion but, I was a mechanical services contractor and air conditioning was my business, and I do have strong feelings on this.

If as a host you are going to offer your property for paying guests you have an obligation to provide a clean, odor free, comfortable space. If the host, despite listing A/C as an amenity, can't do that they have no right to be on this platform......they are tarnishing what the rest of us do!

@Marc7416  Marc I am sorry there is nothing I can do for you from the other side of the world except to re-enforce what @Mike-And-Jane0 has said. If your listing is described as being air conditioned  in the amenities, you should take a note of the temperatures and firstly ask the host to provide some sort of cooling as per description or you will seek compensation. A fan is not Air conditioning and cannot be advertised as air conditioning....not even ceiling sweep fans. They are fans, not air conditioners.

Air conditioning should meet certain industry standards, and those requirements are to maintain 25c (77f)  on cooling  on a 35c ambient, and 21c (70f) on heating on a 10c ambient. To me, I would see this as a minimum standard.

As I said, it is all very well for me because I was in the trade, but I guarantee my cottage will maintain 19c (66f) on an ambient 40c (104f)  day on cooling, and will maintain 25c (77f)  on an ambient 8c (46f) night on heating.

Not a soul has ever said to me they did not have enough heating or cooling. One 2c morning a few weeks ago this guy came sprinting out of the cottage wearing nothing but a pair of 'Jocks' to get something from his car. On his way back inside I said...."Bloody cold morning to be outdoors like that"! He very briefly looked at me and said...."Jesus" and disappeared back into the cottage!

Marc, get the host to provide you with some cooling immediately or ask Airbnb to relocate you! I understand communication with them just now is difficult but keep trying, you should not have to put up with this! Good luck.

Cheers.......Rob

@Robin4 thanks a squillion for replying. I had no idea you had such expertise in the field, brilliant answer!

@Mike-And-Helen0

I had the 4th largest mechanical services company in Adelaide, my state city. I had 27 employees when I gave it away when Ade's  MS started to take hold of her life.

My advantage is Mike, I always had access to the best equipment at little or no cost, and the expertise to know what to do with it. We can all do great things when we can do it on a shoestring budget.

The cottage also has a full ducted Hepa air filtration system which runs constantly to take care of any pollen allergies.

The only downside of having all this capacity, if it's available, guests will use it! I have them come in on a 9c winter afternoon and say..."Oh, it's lovely and warm in here". They will put their bags down and go out for the afternoon and evening, but not before winding the thermostat up to 30c so they will have a toasty environment to come back to!!!

Guests are environmental vandals and that is why I have overrides on my thermostat to stop blatant wastage!

But Mike.....it's there in bucket loads!

Cheers.......Rob

@Marc7416 You need to call Airbnb if possible and ask to cancel due to lack of a critical amenity. They might help relocate you but its unlikely I am afraid

I talked with the owner via whatsapp he said he can buy a mobile aircon delivery time is included, or we can fly back and he refund us the money via airbnb. Is that communication via whatsapp okay? I would prefer to fly home earlier and get money back.

@Marc7416

No Marc, do not negotiate anything through Whatsapp, keep all communication through the Airbnb message stream in case the host disputes it in the future. You must have a record of all conversations that Airbnb can follow. Any arrangements made outside the Airbnb message stream Airbnb will not offer any assistance on.

Cheers........Rob
