No Local Guests?

I am starting new with AirBNB and I notice that a lot of listings in my area prohibit local guests.

I can make a guess why but does anyone else have ideas why hosts do this?

@Randy572 It is because local guests often book places for parties with their friends. Also some people fear a criminal will book, copy the key and then rob the place later.

As long as you are careful which locals you rent to you will be fine. We have had a lot of people waiting for house purchases to complete and a couple whose had to move out of their home due to fire damage.

Generally, it’s because guests who live locally might want to rent somewhere to hold an event or party.

Of course there are many genuine reasons why a local person might want to rent a listing close to them, but some hosts won’t want to take the risk.

With local guests, I would consider the length of stay. A local who wants to book for just one or two nights is quite possibly planning a party or some other event.  I would definitely be asking this guest a lot of questions before accepting their booking.

However, someone booking for a couple of weeks or even a month (if you accept long stays) could be waiting for a house purchase to go through or a rental apartment to become available. I have often had foreign students who have just finished their degrees so no longer have student accommodation, but want to spend a bit of time enjoying London before heading home. There can be many valid reasons. Most guests will offer this information when they contact you and, if they don't, then I will ask.
