Just finishing this for our New Orleans condo. I can never afford all the art I want, so I have to try and make my own. Anyone else making stuff they would like to share? I would love to see what you have created.
I love experimenting with mosaics Laura, Here is one I did for the kids, they just love their chooks (their hens) so I got a bit of form-board and drew out my rough design, went along to a local tile supplier and rounded up enough tiles for the project and proceeded to smash them into random bits with a hammer.
Here is about where it started out.......
each day it grew a bit more.......
When the tile-work was finished I grouted it......
And here was the finished product hanging on their wall.....
As you can see, the chook is obviously a Rhode Island Red!!
The only thing that defeated me was.....the egg! I was damned if I could work out a way of making a mosaic egg which would end up looking like an egg, so I went to the local landscape supplier and said to the guy, "I am looking for a river rock, particular shape" and I showed him a photo of what I was doing.
He said to me ...."Mate see that bin over there, there is 150 tons of river rocks in that bin, if you can find the one you want, it's yours with my compliments"
I do have mosaic projects all around this property.....if it stands still, I will end up mosaicing it!
Countertop splashback in the listing cottage......
Apart from that chook mosaic I don't really work to a plan, I just at the bottom and finish at the top.....and the wheels on the bus go round and round!
Cheers.........Rob
@Cathie19 aw thank you! I've been drawing and painting as long as I can remember. I had a rough childhood and it was my escape. My art is usually pretty happy looking and I think that's a reflection pf how I feel when I'm doing it. Its the one thing I do for myself entirely.
Love those colours @Sandra126 - as you obviously love life with art that just reaches out and crabs you - BRAVO! 😎
A few recent projects.
Finally @Sandra126! Absolutely gorgeous. I'm obsessed with the cabbage leaves! (And every last droplet :))
I scrolled up after posting! Wow! I really love that self-portrait of you in the crimson robe. And your whole portrait gallery. You've been prolific and it's all stunning. @Sandra126
Thank you @Ann72 , I think cabbage is my new thing. Like a green rose, or an aerial shot of an intricate landscape. I had a recent obsession with small mammals and fruit. That living room will be the new guest living, but have to move us out first... build still waiting on final permits. A year's wait so far... hence much paint time!
I love thinking about the cabbage paintings as road-maps to imaginary worlds. Very Airbnb-appropriate too. Also, what is the gold background on those small-mammal paintings?
