need to cancel a reservation

I am new to Airbnb and someone has booked a reservation for a year out. I am unsure I will be hosting at that time and I am thinking about canceling but I noticed the penalties are pretty severe and I don't know what to do.

You can set the "availability window" in the listing to a shorter period like 3 or 6 months out.

If you cancel you indeed will receive penalties:

You can also leave the reservation in place and, if neccessary, cancel it later.
