I charge per person at my chalet.
I have a booking this weekend.
The guest booked for 1 guest, but wants to come with his girlfriend.
I changed the reservation for 2 guests.
He called me to explain that he meant to book for 2, but now realises that he cant afford it for 2 people.
What should I do if he still hasnt adjusted his reservation, and arrives with 2 people?
Thanks
Adonis

If the guest shows with a second person and it's clearly stated in your listing that the additional one is an additional fee then you do not have to allow the second person access to the house. You can also contact Airbnb, have them read your message thread and ask their advice. It's nice the guest wrote what he did. That will help you.
If you find that the first guest has snuck the second guest in after you welcomd him then he has violated the house rules and you can ask them both to leave immediately.
Thank you @Helen3 for taking the time to share your thoughts which are well made. Best wishes.
You say my points are well made @Max473 yet five days after I posted to let you know askng for cash, including for a deposit, is against Airbnb T&Cs - you still haven't removed your cash deposit request, that you include as part of your house rules.
"Damage deposit payable only in cash at check-in, Euros 200 (which is refunded a few days after departure, once property is cleaned afterwards)."
I offer 2 lovely large 3 bedroom apartments, which sleep up to 6 in total. I often get 2 guests book and then ‘somehow’ use all 3 bedrooms. I have also had many guests arrive with extra group members which haven’t been mentioned. Often sneaking them in, later, after meeting me for the keys. Eventually I put my minimum price up to cover the first 3 guests. I have also really beefed up my house rules, to make it more sensible to declare extra guests, than to get caught later......This doesn’t stop it but I do get a little bit more money!
@Maxine3 I saw that your listings are for rent for the entire apartment. Therefore, when a guest books it, the guest is entitled to occupy the entire space. It does not matter if two guests used your three bedrooms.
You definitely need to have a video device at the door to get the evidence of how many guests stay in your apartment. Otherwise, it is hard to claim extra guests through Airbnb.
We are quite new to Airbnb. 3 out of our 4 first bookings have booked for 1 person (we charge pp pn so as to keep it affordable for solo travellers) but messages sent after the booking was confirmed have told me they are coming with a friend/girlfriend.
Ive had to message each of them to point this out.
ive now added a note in our listing to emphasise our pricing structure.
I went to book a place a couple of days ago and it clearly asks you how many guests. I do think that some people are trying it on!
I've gone so far as to add "please check that you have selected the correct number of guests" in the auto greeting message that Airbnb sends after 2 people turning up when the booking said it was for 1 person multiple times.
I've also made it clear that I price for one person to account for solo travellers too. Reading through this thread has made me very happy that other hosts do the same thing.
We do not charge per person, but we do provide towels, snacks, bottled water, bathroom amenities based on the number of people in a booking. We just had someone check out who booked for one person, but four people showed up. Luckily, we provided enough for four people just in case, but what if we had not?
I recently have a guest from India booked for one guest for his business trip. Then send me a message say we are coming... So I asked how many guest are coming as booking is only for one. He said 2. I sent through an alteration request. He asked me why there is extra charges. I told him becuase we charge extra for additional guest to cover our cost. He didn't accept the alteration for days. I then messaged him to suggest if he is not happy with the price he can still cancel for free. But he came back say the booking is unchanged and he will be coming alone. I found it very strange for a company cancel an employees business trip for extra 20 dollars accommodation cost. After grating him at the door and hand over him the key. I received a message from the neighbours saying that a strange man has knocked on their door and thought their house was his airbnb accommodation. She ask me if that was my guest. I found that quite strange since he know where the house is and is staying alone. Why knocking on neighbours door. I rang up airbnb and expressed my concern that the guest booked for one but might have another person sneaked in. Airbnb suggested me to go check with the guest. When we arrived 2 of them were going out. But he said that was his friend visiting him. Of course I can't be sure he is be dishonest. This evening I went to the house to bring the wheel bin down from the road, I saw 2 of them cooking dinner at the house. I contacted Airbnb again and not sure what would happen. Reading all the post seems there is not much I can do as a host. Please advise
Say to the guest he has a choice either he pays for the additional guest or you willneed to ask Airbnb to cancel the booking @Ying170
Thank you

mean personally this is stupid if someone is coming with their significant other and they sleep in the same bed what are you charging extra for? like unless ur providing more of a device then i don't understand what risk your taking when ud charge the same amount to the 1 attendee for damages or extra cleaning or really anything anyway... its not like you are personally providing any extra cost for two people staying in one room in the same bed ... now if it was someone other than a significant other than i completely agree because there's more general risk involved with two people not being in a platonic relationship practically speaking.
idk yall are already making extra income on the renter anyway
so idk what's the point of scamming extra cost especially in more expensive cities for a couple coming for a weekend getaway
