4% MAT remittance for Toronto

Hi,

It looks to me like airBNB takes 17% for occupancy taxes.

That would be 13% for HST and 4% for the Toronto Municipal Accommodation Tax or at least this is what makes sense to me.

Can anyone confirm this?

Do I need to file the quarterly report still or is airBNB doing this?

@Alex9367  I would file the report with an explanation letter stating that the taxes were collected by AirBnB.  I have been doing this in my jurisdiction (NC, USA) for several years at the advice of my tax accountant.  The Local tax office finally sent me a letter officially stating that I did not need to file the municipal forms. I still file forms for the County and the State.

I have never received any documentation from Airbnb showing that they have paid my taxes under my tax number.  I have never seen a copy of any report submitted by Airbnb to any tax agency either.  Speak to your tax accountant or attorney for advice that is pertinent to you and the jurisdiction of your property.

Hi Alex,

I'm confused by this too.  It looks like Airbnb collects and remits the Toronto MAT and the hours of rental but do I still need to file the same information with the city of Toronto?  Let me know what you've found out.  Thanks!
