NYS Sales Tax

Thank you so much!  That was very helpful!  Do you know if VRBO operates the same way - making a lump sum payment that we need to keep track of.

Does VRBO have its own community group . If so you will probably get a faster response by posting there @Debra782

@Debra782 @Helen3   VRBO did away with its community forum several years ago.

In answer to what I think Debra's question is, you do have to keep track of what VRBO charges your guest in the way of taxes and "purportedly" pays to the various tax agencies on your behalf.  It is a lump sum to those entities and will not have any tax identification numbers or names as to which owners or properties are included in the payment.  You will not receive any documentation verifying the tax payments have been made.  Tax payments are not reflected on the 1099 either.

I have to file monthly, quarterly and annual "no tax owed as it is paid by AirBnB or VRBO" tax reports to my state, county and local municipality in order to have a paper trail in the event of an audit. You have to know which taxes are collected and paid by AirBnB and VRBO, what the percentages are and how to report the taxable income properly.
