Accountant

Hi,

I am new to airbnb and need some advice.  I am hosting a cabin for my BF.  The tax ID info I entered is his name and TIN.  Does anyone know if the income earned will show up at the end of the year as income I earned?  It doesn’t seem like it should and I am just helping him run the site.

Also wondering if anyone has a good accountant that is familiar with airbnb?

Thanks!

Pam

@Pam2072  I'm not sure how any income could be reported as your income if you haven't given anyone your own Tax ID/SSN.

Any qualified accountant is able to work on a return with STR income. It is not some sort of specialty. You track your income and expenses, and convey that information when you do your taxes. It's  Schedule E/Rental property-nothing complicated.

Hey dear,

When you provide your boyfriend's tax ID for the Airbnb hosting, it's likely that the income earned from the cabin will be associated with him, and any tax reporting might reflect that.

P.S. I do have experience in bookkeeping and handling accounting tasks for short-term rental businesses like Airbnb. I'd be more than happy to assist you with managing your financial records, tracking income and expenses, and ensuring you're well-prepared for tax season.

Let's talk 🙂

Hi @Amr359

It's against the terms of this community to use it to try and solicit for business.

Tax laws work differently in different countries so @Pam2072 needs an accountant in her own country.

@Pam2072  if you set your boyfriends listing up under your profile then you will be liable for taxes as the listing shows yourself as the business owner. You need to have the listing set up under his profile and have yourself added as the cohost. And if you are helping him run his STR business then most people would be paid a fee for this work as a cohost. Of course couples sharing income may not do this as it's all joint income.

Hi @Pam2072

I'd suggest  you join a local host group for your location on FB and ask for a recommendation for a local accountant from your fellow hosts .

Hi @Pam2072, How are you doing?

As our lovely members suggested below, have you gotten in touch with an accountant in your region and managed to get more understanding about the income earned?

As Helen mentioned below, if you are still looking for some leads to find reliable accountants, you can also visit the Local Host Clubs to get in touch with regional hosts: https://community.withairbnb.com/t5/Local-Host-Clubs/ct-p/en_clubs.

We would surely like to get some idea of what you find!
