Airbnb and EI (Canada)

Airbnb and EI (Canada)

We opened our Airbnb account in my spouse’s name. We just listed it this week and have gotten a few guests and some pending earnings as we are yet to submit my wife’s tax ID details. We listed as private hosts (not business or professional

Question: My wife is on maternity EI, so I’m wondering if earning from Airbnb (property) we both own puts her EI earnings at risk. Would she be penalized if she earned from Airbnb while receiving maternity EI?

You should check with the agency that approved her for maternity pay.  Just a guess but it allowed you to work and have an income.  Limits on her income maybe on yours has to be confirmed with the agency first, then you can figure out the best way to comply with the rules.
