Airbnb short-term rental nyc

Airbnb short-term rental nyc

Hey I'm Steven and wanted to reach out to the community to find out.

Has anyone submitted an application for short-term  rental here in NYC and has anyone been approved yet  and how long did it  take for them to get approval.

I'm still waiting approval.

And hoping it doesn't take too long for my house property that I do own.

Thank you so much

I'm a super host and I love what I do

And I don't want to stop because of this law.  Makes me so sad.

The government can be greedy

From reading on this community many New York hosts applied many months ago but some strangely have left applying to the last minute not even applying to Aug/Sept this year. @Steven1572

Some New York hosts who applied in good time have reported theirs have come through

probably worth using the search function on this community to find similar discussions.

Thank you for your feedback

I have applied more than a month ago and they keep getting back to me stating that my listing is illegal although I'm offering hosting while i inhabit the unit, just as they request. I fixed my airbnb listing but i'm still getting "pending for rejection" update. Can someome please help me fix it before they reject my application?

Hi @Jessica4669,

Have you tried contacting them to ask what else they need to accept your application? If so, what did they say?

Since this post is from a few years ago, if you'd like more advice from other hosts, I would recommend as well that you start a new conversation here 👈 so your question is more visible. 🙂

Thanks,

Emilie

I live just outside NYC and regulations have been tightened. Here is what I found:

Short-term Airbnb rentals (less than 30 days) are effectively illegal in NYC unless the host is present, no more than two guests are staying, and the unit is registered with the city. Local Law 18 mandates that platforms verify registration, prohibiting illegal listings and drastically reducing short-term options. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Key NYC Airbnb Rules
    • 30-Day Rule: Rentals under 30 days are prohibited unless the host is staying in the home with the guest.
    • Host Presence: Guests must have access to the entire home, not a locked-off private room, if the stay is under 30 days.
    • Registration Needed: Hosts must register with the NYC Office of Special Enforcement (OSE).
      • Platform Compliance: Airbnb, VRBO, etc., must verify registration before enabling a booking.
      • Exceptions: These rules do not apply to licensed hotels or Bed & Breakfasts. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

        Important Notes for Travelers
        • If booking, ensure the listing has a valid registration number provided by the host.
        • The city's regulations are strict to curb illegal, un-hosted apartment rentals.
        • These rules are specific to New York City and not necessarily all of New York State. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Disclaimer: Regulations can change. Always check the official NYC Short-Term Rental Portal for the most current information.

Thank you @Luz688 for sharing some insights!

Did you need to go through the registration process yourself? Do you have any advice on that for @Jessica4669
