@Adriana1194 how much higher? Is it the Airbnb service fees or taxes?

Hi Adriana, I came here to post about the same thing. This new feature called "Upfront Price" where guest get a total estimate on the dates they chose instead of a breakdown where the cost of cleaning is separate, is going to turn away a lot of people , especially new users and or old users who rent once in a while.

For example, my apt is priced $110 for the weekend (including Friday), and a $25 cleaning fee, So I Put 3 days. To the guest it stated that I charge 135 per day before taxes. Yes as a host I know that the system is dividing the total cost by 3 days with the airbnb fee, but this is unappealing as a whole to consumers. Edit: Also, shorter stays will look more expensive, while longer will look a tad cheaper.

The older system is better imo. Now, if Airbnb have been getting complaints from renters, than I guess we can't do anything about it as Host unless it's a feature that  programmers think it's a good idea, it's not!

Hello jose,

Thank you for you explanation, I think that the problem is change a process and not inform properly the customers. This is really doing a mess that unfortunately I've already realized I was affected by this weekend's reservations.

@Jose5045 I totally disagree with you. It is only fair that the total price is shown rather than baiting the guest with a low nightly rate and then wacking them with additional cleaning charges, fees, taxes etc.

@Mike-And-Jane0 The issue is that new users and some people that are not regular will be confused!  Before it was laid out what you're going to pay for anyways, now a person that puts 2 days will think that's the normal price for let's say 4 days or just any amount of of days!

They will think that too, what you said, , that it's baiting! 2 Days vs 4 vs 6 days, yes , there's no actual difference in price as before the new system, but the problem is perception! Put back the price break down again along with the new method, issue fixed!

@Jose5045  Actually, the majority of guests prefer to see the total price, rather than a nightly price and then when they enter dates and number of guests, suddenly all these extra charges appear- cleaning fees, taxes, etc.

Airrbnb makes changes like this based on guest surveys and feedback.

@Sarah977 No problem, I just think that both should be included before they hit "Reserve", the total and a break down of what they are paying!  It helps tremendously in Hispanic/Latin countries! Thanks!

@Jose5045 Yes, being able to see a breakdown if they want to would be a good option.

But why does it help tremendously in Latin countries, as opposed to any others?

Hiya @Adriana1194 and @Jose5045 ,

Thanks for your questions and welcome to the Community Center. I have a bit of information I can share on this, which you can read more details of in this Resource Center article: Why your nightly rate may look different

The highlights of which are:

  • We’re testing new ways to show prices in Airbnb search results
  • The goal is to identify whether other formats can boost bookings
  • The trial does not affect guest payment amounts or Host payouts in any way

Thanks,

Stephanie
