@Katherine1216 guests will never be happy with an extra fee or take the time to understand it. It is not their problem if we make or loose money and what we have to do in our line of business/work.
Just like I it is not my problem that credit card companies just 3 percent from the restaurants. I do not want to see that fee regardless of the name.
Most people know very well what it means. Those who leave a mess will leave it regardless and those who clean up after themselves will clean up even with the worlds highest clean up fee charged.
I think many hosts expect too much from guests as far as clean up. It is much easier for a cleaner to do 10-15 minutes of work than for a family frantically rushing and packing in the morning to do things.
Having said that, I do agree that airbnb needs to do a better job setting expectations with guests. We are not hotels, we do not have a full time staff and we do not have multiple rooms. We can not put a guest into one room if we are still cleaning the other. We do not have a lobby for them to wait and we have kitchens and other more complicated spaces to clean.
I also do not think anyone will stay longer than they intended because a fee is called something else.
