I am curious how you guys handle trash emptying and trash pickup everyweek, no incentive I can provide does the trick? What works?

@Lk6 Pay a neighbours son or daughter.

Hello @Lk6,

Thank you very much for bringing this topic to our community.

I am reaching out to some fellow hosts to ask if they would like to share their opinions on trash pickups at their Airbnbs: @Joan2709@Guy991@Karen4131@Lorina14 and @Shelley159

Looking forward to reading everyone's experiences! 😊

Hi @Lk6,

Since @Paula asked, here's what I do 🙈

There's a mismatch between our cleaning window and the truck's pickup time, so I drive the bags home 😬 (fortunately it's usually not much) and add to the bins at home for pickup!

@Lk6

It depends if you are near your listing or a remote Host. If near your listing, then many Hosts just take care of it themselves as @Shelley159 . If not, then remote Hosts either pay their cleaners extra to come back to the listing on trash day and take the bins to the street and return them after trash pickup, (most cleaners will charge extra to do this), or pay someone as @Mike-And-Jane0 said to do it.

If the guest is staying at the property on trash pickup day, we usually message them and ask if they would please take the trash to the curb for pickup. This is added to our House Manual and Addl House Rules on the listing. Most guests are perfectly fine with that, as it gets the trash out of the house and gives them an empty bin to use afterwards when they check-out. We have never had a guest refuse to do this if they happen to be staying on trash pickup day. However, I guess they could refuse; its possible. Then you should have a backup plan as previously discussed to handle the trash.

@Lk6 A further benefit of using neighbours is that it gets them 'on side' with having an Airbnb next door. giving them your contact details and asking them to call you if the guest is disturbing them or if there is an issue with the property also helps as it proves you want to be a good neighbour.
