Is is possible to get gest that make up stories just to get a refund back?

I had a guest that booked for 3 nights, constant communication, asking for restaurants, parking, how far it was from the airport,  then what stores were near the listening,  I  responded to every question with details and even provide a map for the airport to the condo,  he could easily look on line,  but in order to be a good host, I provided.  Two guys rented two bedrooms with 3 beds.  Nest morning they texted me via air BnB and complained that bathrooms were not up to their standards and there was a funny smell and some other small stuff,  I apologized and agreed to send a cleaning lady per their request, they came back and said they were not going to stay and if I could refund 2 night? I agreed and refund  $500 via Venmo, only to find out that I should have done it via Air BnB, well-requested refund from Air BnB as well,  the rules on cancelations are a bit confusing to me.  Does anyone care to advise? I would rate to get penalized when I am just beginning on air BnB.

Thank you so much for the input, I really think that it was odd, Two bedrooms and they only used one, the bedroom with 2 beds was not even touched, as matter of fact nothing else was touched, not even the kitchen coffee maker center, the dinning table was just as clean as I left.

they only use the master bedroom master bath and towels, they left the place very clean. not even trash in the trash cans.

Thank you for your response. Greatly appreciated. I am going to read more about and educate myself.

My place is white,  so a little dust can show up, may that is what happened. the funny thing is I even ironed the towels to make them even softer.  I will do my best for my future guest, but I will be a little more aware of things. Thanks again.

Yes, there are most definitely people who will lie to get refunds. In rare cases they will intentionally break things or submit fake photos.

You can find many examples on this forum.

You should NEVER agree to a cancellation. If the guest demands it Airbnb will probably cancel for them, but if you agree Airbnb will penalize you.

You should also never give refunds without going through Airbnb. These people might be able to get Airbnb to refund them also.

Beware guests who are looking for inexperienced hosts in order to cheat them. They are out there.

@Zee126   You have a beautifully appointed condo and are new to this platform.  I agree with @Brian2036  that you need to be aware of the policies and procedures so you can manage your business.  Perhaps you can acquaint yourself by reading the number of articles in the Help Center about starting to host.  Also, there are many discussions in the forum about how guests can "scam" hosts.  Meanwhile, contact Air BNB and speak with a representative about what transpired with regards to the refund.  You may need to provide proof of your refund via Venmo.  Good luck!
