Where in Georgia (USA) is your property? Georgia does not have any state-wide regulations for short term rentals, but hosts are required to pay sales and hotel-motel taxes. Many cities in the state have their own regulations for short term rentals, so it's important for investors to research the local laws in the market where they plan to invest.
You will need to register with the Georgia Department of Revenue in order to be able to pay sales and hotel-motel (lodging) taxes. If you only rent out through a third-party vacation rental marketplace (like Airbnb, Vrbo, etc.) that remits taxes on behalf of the owner, you don’t need to pay hotel-motel tax. Registration can be done online, after which the applicant will receive a Georgia Tax Identification Number.
