Occupancy taxes

1. Does Airbnb send the occupancy tax directly to the state it belongs to; I host in Puerto Rico?

2. Do we deduct cleaning fees and then pay occupancy taxes?

3. Why doesn't Airbnb deduct all costs and then calculate the occupancy tax amount?

Thank you,

Airbnb collects and pays taxes for some listings, but not all. It is up to the Host to determine if all the proper taxes are collected and paid. In some states, Airbnb only collects some taxes, and others they don't. It is then up to the Host to collect those that Airbnb doesn't collect and pay them to the appropriate jurisdiction.

That said, I do see that some taxes are being collected on your listing. Bed tax is usually paid on the nightly rate + cleaning fee:

You will have to research what taxes are required for your specific location of Puerto Rico and any local tourism taxes by contacting your local jurisdictions and ensure they are collected and paid correctly:

Thank you, Joan,

Airbnb said they'll send an email regarding taxes.

1. In your experience, around what month of the year is that email sent for the past year's taxes?

If you are speaking of a 1099 form for filing income tax, that is only provided if you have greater than $20,000 and greater than 200 transactions for calendar year. They are required to mail that or make it available by Jan 31st. If you have less than the threshold, then you have to get that information in your Earnings Report.
