Replacing cable boxes with streaming TV

Replacing cable boxes with streaming TV

I have six loft apartments in one building. All of my units have fast robust wifi, smart TVs, and cable boxes.

We only have one local cable company in our isolated town. The service is poor, picture quality not so good, and it is expensive. I would like to get rid of the cable boxes and offer cable channels through a streaming service to satisfy my older guests, who still like to watch cable TV and don’t have streaming accounts of their own. My younger guests either use their own accounts or plug in their own devices through the HDMI cable. But sometimes there is a game or something that everybody wants to watch. I price my units at the high end, so just telling the guests there is no cable TV isn’t an option. My older guests expect it.

My problem is, how do I offer streaming cable without allowing more savvy but less ethical guests to hijack my account? My understanding is, if I use Roku in guest mode, the guests can’t watch my channels, which defeats the whole purpose.

Any suggestions?

You can set up a Roku streaming stick so that guest can't charge anything. It doesn't require a subscription to use it. Then use a streaming cable provider like Youtube cable TV or DTV Now. I know Youtube TV has a setting that requires passcode to make purchases on all devices. Pretty sure thats the default setting. I think YT TV allows 6 devices now but also went up in price.

Thanks John, that looks like it would work. I'm going to give it a try.
