So yesterday we had our first real negative guest experience. Although we allow dogs, this guest did not let us know that he is coming with one. Even in check in he did not let us know - my wife by chance spotted a big Bulldog in his car. 30min later the dog was left outside unattended and attacked one of our chickens (we don't know yet if it will survive). I got the guest and he wasn't even apologetic, just got the dog and went to our rental. No apology, etc. At this point my question is: can we tell the guest to leave as he put our animals at risk? He also left our cabin in an absolute state. Another question: do you leave a really negative review or not review at all and alert Airbnb?
@Joerg59 No point in alerting Airbnb; they don't care. Absolutely leave an honest review if the stay is over. And anytime a guest (or their pet) is behaving irresponsibly or dangerously, you do have the right to terminate the stay. Airbnb can not force you to let a guest complete their stay if you withdraw your consent, though you will generally forfeit the payout for the unused nights.
@Joerg59 I would terminate his stay if his dog is putting your own animals at risk. You might want to reconsider being pet friendly going forward.
Obviously they broke the rules, are obnoxious, and the dig is a danger.
If they are still there, call Airbnb and get a neutral cancellation based on safety issues.
Just a thought, what if it hadn't been a chicken, but a child or grandchild?
Just my opinion. Definitely leave an honest review, mindful of wording so that it can not be pulled by Airbnb.
As an example, we recently had guests who partied, illegal drugs, noise, nudity. The star ratings we entered were appropriate, the key was that the public review was "Cleaning took more time than normal, not a good fit". The guest had Airbnb pull his/her review. My review of the guest remains because of the neutral wording. Savvy hosts will realize that the cleaning issue also suggest broken house rules. Subtle but effective.
